LANDSCAPES
My passion for the landscapes is as
follows; These airy landscapes are the moments between breaths, the
sound after a water drop rejoins a puddle, the instant after a leaf
breaks free and begins its journey. I approach the landscapes with
the intent to allow the viewer to exhale and to reminisce about a moment
in their life that brings them tranquility. My intent is to learn to
enjoy things for what they are without over analyzing. There is
much Beauty in the simplicities of life."These paintings are what they
are, moments in time that are recalled as fleeting memories!
Tim Postell, 2007
ABSTRACTS
The paintings are a symphony of
lines, marks, splashes and drips of color inside the four edges of a
canvas. The work represents the moment of the internal self. Each stroke
of paint is comprised of all the elements making up the environment I am
in at that moment in time. It's the atmosphere around me, the music
playing, the light, the temperature, the wind and even the sound of my
breath and heart beat in my ears as I work. Each session is different in
many ways. One night I may dance with the canvas and the next the canvas
and I may collide like two freight trains head on. It is always
different for me. Each painting is a non-objective representation of
existing in the moment and coexisting with chaos.
"Inside of chaos, we find ourselves".

Bio

I grew up in a rural area of
Gastonia, North Carolina, where most of my memories are of days spent
playing sports and helping to raise a few head of cattle. In December
1985, I began my adult life at the age of 18 in the United States Air
Force. In June, 1987, I married my wife who is my inspiration in
life. After leaving the military in November 1989, I worked construction
until August 1990, when I began working for Duke Power, the same utility
my father retired from. Four months later on the 18th of December, 1990, I
was recalled to active duty for the Persian Gulf Conflict. When I
returned home from the war, my life had changed. It took me three more
years of soul searching to realize that I was only truly happy when I
was doing something related to art. I spent the next two years going to
night school at the local community colleges. I went four and five
nights a week, year round, while at the same time working full time for
Duke Power. In August, 1996, at the age of 28, I left my job and
transferred to East Carolina University to pursue my dream of becoming
an artist.
After obtaining my undergraduate degree in May 1999, I spent the
following two years in graduate school at the Hoffberger School of
Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore,
Maryland. While at the Institute I grew as an artist under the guidance
of people like internationally known artists Grace Hartigan, the founder
and director of the Hoffberger School of Painting, Raoul Middleman the
artist in residence and many more visiting artists. During those two
years at the Institute I also had the unique opportunity to learn from
the brilliance of my peers in the program, which made it an
extraordinary artistic and intellectual experience. in
I now live in Raleigh, North Carolina and spend a great portion of
my time plein air painting (open air) or painting in my
studio (Studio # 202) at Artspace in downtown Raleigh where art is
flourishing through a symbiotic relationship that can be found between
the diverse population of remarkable artists found there and in this community.
